It may sound obvious, but for some reason we just aren’t taught this way-

I’ve been specializing in color and Natural Beaded Rows Hair Extensions for about 6 years now, and boy have a had a few breakthroughs along the way.

For color, a big one was when I stopped using patterns and simply looked at the hair section by section asking myself “what am I seeing—what do I need to change”. I feel like this creates a super customized, more organic looking end result.

For Extensions..(there has been a lot) but one that always stands out to me is mixing tones and shades. Not just the pretty new highlight color, but a little of their natural base color as well as any other shades they have mixed in their hair. (Because hardly anyone is truly 1 solid color)

My rule of thumb is usually 3-4 different tones/shades for blondes and 2-3 for brunettes. The more options, the more natural the blend looks.

BUT THIS ISNT A ONE TIME DEAL

Just as it does on your natural hair, extension color fades. So each time a client comes back in, I give their extensions a good color refresh while they are off their head.

Story Time—When I first started doing hair, I overheard that people were saying that the only reason I had success was because my mom let me work in her salon right out of school.

Well that was true, I was blessed to be able to work in a family salon right out of the gate. However I think this could also be seen as a disadvantage. Why? At the time this was a private-basically home salon, with 0 foot traffic, 0 street signage, in a very small town and with no other stylists to work along side and learn from. (My mom did nails, not hair)

So while yes, I had a chair, I alone was responsible for filling that chair. I was my own business from day one.

I hustled. I put myself out there. I turned my personal Instagram into my business account and marketed my buns off. I was called “cocky” “not all that”, “too expensive” and my favorite “a one trick pony”

But guess what? I kept going. Kept hustling. Kept growing.

Today—I am proud of the business I have built over the years, and I still have NEW goals both in my personal life and in my business that I will continue to hustle for.

My point in all of this—to motivate you to get clear on your goals, “declutter” the distractions + and get to work⚡️
